Electrical Period Inspection
| Is your electrical system safe? |
Whilst it is not a statutory requirement to have an annual safety check on electrical equipment, as there is with gas, but it is advisable to do so to meet your obligations under most insurance policies. A full test is performed on the supply of your home/business to BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations, including fuse boards, earthing arrangements, wiring, fixtures and fittings (i.e. lights, sockets, switches). Installation methods, loose connections etc
| The following tests are carried out: |
·
Continuity of earth conductors. · Continuity of ring final conductors. · Polarity · Installation resistance - to check for any kind of arcing or moisture between phase-phase earth · Earth loop impedance - to verify a path to earth · RCD test to check tripping times and mA settings
The test involves testing circuits at the consumer unit and various points around the property and includes a visual inspection as well as an instrumental test.
| The testers used are: |
·
Voltage tester to measure Voltage levels · Continuity tester to measure if there is any resistance in wiring circuits measured in ohms · Insulation resistance to measured in Mohms · Earth loop impedance tester measured in ohms · RCD tester to measure mSeconds
Also the electrical supply characteristics are tested to ensure a good earth and path if a fault current is present. These tests are called Ze and PSC (Prospective Short Circuit). The NICEIC inspector who carries out this test enrols to the NICEIC and his work is checked yearly by the NICEIC to ensure he works to BS7671 IEE Regulations.
